Art from Spirit
Lou Hart creates detailed and powerful felted portraits of the Dead - from a variety of timelines and geographical locations -and of the Fae in differing guises. Inspired by connection with Santa Muerte, (the syncretic Roman Catholic and pre-Columbian death goddess) during Covid lockdown, the works on display reference the ubiquity of death while exploring the realms of spirit.
Death is an experience common to us all regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, sexuality, gender or status. In addition, spirit and explanations of contact with spirit from other worlds or after death, have been found globally in most cultures whether that be through religions, shamanism, spiritualism etc
In a time where rage, hatred and anger seems to be on display constantly, and when humanity is in danger of destroying other life forms as well as our planet, the ubiquity of death and the beauty of spirit sends a powerful message about equality, diversity and our place on this Earth which is, after all, made up from the remains of our ancestors and from our animal kin.
Lou will be available to talk about the creative process and the stories behind some of the pieces, currently on show 'At the Coachouse' in Walpole Road, Brighton as part of the 2025 May Artist's Open Weeks on the weekend of the 17th & 18th May, and the 25th & 26th May 2025
